NYP Sub-Internship

The sub-internship in Emergency Medicine is an immersive four-week experience reflecting the breadth of knowledge and responsibilities of an emergency medicine intern. The course is designed for fourth-year medical students who are considering a career in Emergency Medicine.

  • This four-week course includes clinical shifts in the adult and pediatric Emergency Departments at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. Students will also experience the pre-hospital environment through a ride along with NY Presbyterian EMS, dedicated emergency ultrasound teaching, telemedicine, and other specialized services within the two departments of Emergency Medicine.

There is a substantial didactic component to augment the clinical experience: a series of weekly dedicated sub-intern lectures, hands-on workshops, and small group sessions, in addition to the weekly residency academic conferences.

  • Fourth-year medical students from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons should apply through the OASIS system.

Students from Weill Cornell Medicine and all other medical schools should apply through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) site.

  • The Visiting Scholar Program is a funded program for fourth year medical students interested in Emergency Medicine. The program is designed to support students, who may not otherwise be able to travel to our area, and to provide an opportunity to gain clinical exposure to Emergency Medicine at two NYC-based tertiary medical centers.

Subinternship will take place for one month during the months of July through October.
