Author Guidelines

  • Objective: create an original, short article that highlights learning pearls in an EM topic of your choosing. This does not need to be a comprehensive review, but rather a quick read that conveys specific concepts. The target audience is EM clinicians of any level, but you are welcome to tailor your article to a specific learner if you would like. Stylistically, the article can be as conversational or formal as you would like, but should always be as accurate and evidence-based as possible with use of high-quality references. Make sure to de-identify any patient information. Once a draft is written by the resident contributor, it will be peer-reviewed by the blog team and subsequently will be reviewed by a faculty editor prior to publication on the blog.

  • Each article should be <1000 words (~5-10 minute read)

  • A minimum of 3 sources should be cited in AMA format. References should be high-quality primary literature or textbook sources, preferably from within the past 10 years. In general, minimize use of other FOAMed sites (i.e. EMCrit, LIFTL, emDocs) as a primary source. All images must be cited as well.

  • Once a draft of the article is completed, the author should send it to their peer editor for review. Edits may be made accordingly.

After peer review and the first round of edits, the article will be sent to the faculty editor for review. We aim to give faculty a minimum of 1-2 weeks to complete their review of the article.

After faculty review, once final edits have been made, the article will be posted on the blog.
